Scenario
A fire at a residential property was blamed on a lighting fixture manufactured few years prior to the loss.
Challenge
LWG was retained by the law firm defending the manufacturer to investigate the cause of the fire and render an expert opinion related to the alleged liability of the product. LWG participated in the examination, testing and analysis of the product remains in addition to other artifacts presented by the plaintiffs. Detailed testing and analysis was performed on a number of exemplars. Applicable codes and standards were reviewed and analyzed in great details.
Outcome
LWG experts rendered an opinion that though the product was the ignition source of the fire, the cause was not related to its design or manufacturer. Instead, LWG experts were able to show in court that the product was not used in accordance to manufacturer instructions, which in turn led to the unsafe conditions causing the fire. As a result of our analysis, the jury were able to find for the defense.
